Structure of the network
The Mexican Long Term Ecological Research Network joins Research Groups that study terrestrial and aquatic Mexican ecosystems. Contrary to other LTER networks, the Mexican is a group network, not a site network. However, each group is strongly associated to a site, where two main activities are developed:
1) develop of ecological studies following the core research areas
2) long-term monitoring of key ecological and environmental variables.
Each Group in the network is conformed by a staff of researchers that develop at least, four of the seven core research areas. The Mexican Network is also conformed by a category of members oriented to individual researchers that develop long-term studies and are interested in conform a new group in the short-term. Furthermore, the Mexican Network consider the Interested category, integrated by scientist that has recently initiate their researches with a long-term focus. The Individual and Interested categories represent a strategy to increase the Groups that conform the Network.
